  • For me the dominant symbol from several tropical locations (Maui, Cairns, San Diego) is the coconut palm; the frond stems, nuts and flowers as well as the overall shape of the palm head.

    However the quintessential form is the flower bud of the palm tree. This captures in its verdant pregnancy the vitality of tropical growth, the elegance of form driven by function and the thrusting verticality of tropical trees and plants in general.

    The result is a natural “readymade” sculpture.  I have just taken the form with only minor editing and rendered it in a suitable scale.
